What it costs has two parts: the advertised fee, and the exchange-rate margin kept by paying your recipient less than the mid-market rate. The margin is usually the larger, and is never labelled as a fee. Figures are each provider’s published terms — open a provider for a live quote.
Too few checked amounts on this corridor to rank by money, so the order is payout coverage, delivery speed and published fees — a provider with a checked figure is not placed above one without. Affiliate arrangements never affect this order.
- Most ways to receive — Supports the most payout types on this corridor.
- Fastest delivery — Quotes the fastest delivery tier published on this corridor. Where several providers quote it, the one with the widest payout coverage among them carries the badge, and the others are named alongside it.
Where two providers tie, the one supporting more payout types is listed first, then the faster one, then alphabetically. A label is left unawarded whenever the data we hold cannot support it — we would rather show fewer claims than invented ones. No provider on this corridor publishes its exchange rate in advance, so no Best value is named here. Full methodology
What these figures are
- Payout methods, delivery speed, promotions
- Read from each provider’s own pages for this corridor and last reviewed September 2026. Where a provider’s own sources disagree, the disagreement is printed rather than resolved.
Independent — providers cannot pay for placement or ranking · Consistent — every checked amount measured on the same corridor at the same send amount, and any fee quoted on a different basis says so on its own row · Transparent — the advertised fee kept separate from the rate margin

- Wise — Wise does not operate from Qatar. Its Qatari send-money address returns the provider's own lost-page screen and redirects to the global home page. Source
- Remitly — Remitly does not operate from Qatar, or from anywhere in the Gulf except the UAE. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman each return a 404 on the provider's market root. Source
- Instarem — Instarem does not serve Qatar outbound. Its Qatari market address redirects to the global home page, which then quotes a euro to rupee transfer — the redirect-to-homepage pattern that looks live to a status check but serves no Qatari product. Source
- MoneyGram — MoneyGram has no Qatari consumer site. Its Qatari address redirects to the United States home page. It still carries Qatari money: Ooredoo Money names MoneyGram as one of the partners behind its own app, so the network is reachable in Qatar only through somebody else's shopfront. Source
- Ria Money Transfer — Ria publishes no Qatari site. Its Qatari address returns the provider's own page-not-found screen. Source
Quick verdict: the best way to send money to Sri Lanka
Each line names the provider that leads on one specific need, and why. There is no single winner because there is no single question — the lowest fee and the fastest delivery are rarely the same provider.

What is the fastest way to send money to Sri Lanka?
Ooredoo Money quotes the fastest delivery on this corridor at minutes, and so does Western Union. Published speeds describe the fastest route a provider offers, not every route: paying by card and sending to a wallet is usually near-instant, while a bank transfer funded by direct debit takes longer whoever you send with.

Before you send to Sri Lanka
- Sri Lanka is the only corridor out of Qatar where the World Bank's surveyed exchange rate margin came out negative, at minus 0.05 per cent. That means the services surveyed were, on average, giving senders slightly better than the reference mid-market rate — the cost of this corridor is essentially all fee and no spread, which is the reverse of every other Qatari corridor here.
- That inversion is worth understanding rather than relying on. Sri Lanka has repeatedly used incentive payments to pull remittances into formal channels, and a provider passing an incentive through will beat the mid-market rate on paper. It is a policy artefact, and the surveyed average dates from the third quarter of 2025.
- Because the cost here is fee rather than margin, this is the one Qatari corridor where comparing advertised fees is close to comparing the real price. The surveyed average fee, QAR 17.50, is the highest of the seven — higher than Bangladesh's — even though the total cost is the second lowest.
- Western Union has no Qatar-to-Sri-Lanka page. The service exists, but the only figure it states to a Sri Lankan sender in Doha is the 20 QAR floor on its Qatari home page — five riyals above the floor it advertises on the Indian, Filipino and Egyptian pages it does publish.
- Qatari pricing is partly means-tested and says so openly: Commercial Bank's PayCard bundles, for staff it states earn under QAR 4,000 a month, cost a third to two-fifths less than the retail bundles for the identical transfers, and QNB's percentage charge on foreign currency is a third lower for salaried customers.
What it costs to send money to Sri Lanka
Sending money from Qatar to Sri Lanka converts Qatari riyals (QAR) into Sri Lankan rupees (LKR). Most of the real cost is not the headline fee — it is the exchange-rate margin, the gap between your quoted rate and the mid-market rate banks use between themselves. Two providers can both advertise "no fees" and still differ by several percent on what actually arrives.
Sri Lanka has a broad bank and agent payout network, though the low-cost digital field is narrower here than on neighbouring South Asian corridors.
That is why the comparison above leads with how your recipient can be paid rather than with a headline price: match the service to how they actually want the money, then check the final quote.
How to choose the right provider
Compare the amount received, not the fee
Enter the same amount with two or three providers and compare what your recipient in Sri Lanka actually receives in Sri Lankan rupees. That one number folds the fee and the rate margin together.
Match the payout method to your recipient
In Sri Lanka the common rails are bank deposit, cash pickup and the eZ Cash and mCash wallets. A slightly pricier provider paying into the wallet or account they already use beats a cheaper one that means a trip to an agent.
Pay more for speed only when you need it
Ooredoo Money and Western Union can deliver within minutes, but express usually costs more in fee or margin. If it is not urgent, the economy option on the same platform is often meaningfully cheaper.
Check cash pickup coverage before you send
Western Union offer cash pickup in Sri Lanka. Check the specific branch is open and stocked before sending, especially outside major cities.
Verify the provider is licensed
